Gazipur, September 28, 2026: A man identified as Raja, popularly known as “Pichchi Raja,” reportedly escaped from a prison transport van in Gazipur after being taken to Dhaka for a court hearing.
According to prison authorities, the incident occurred on Sunday night while Raja was being transported back to Kashimpur Central Jail-1 after appearing before a Dhaka Metropolitan Court.
Police said the prison van reached the Naojor area of Gazipur when Raja asked to use a toilet. Officers accompanying the prisoner reportedly took him to a nearby toilet. He then allegedly managed to escape from the area.
Raja is a resident of Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, and is the son of Motaleb Mia.
Police had arrested Raja on May 19, 2026, after reportedly receiving information that he and two family members had returned to Bangladesh from Nepal. He was subsequently taken into custody with assistance from immigration officials.
Authorities said there are approximately 25 criminal cases against Raja. The officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station also confirmed that police records contain information on 25 cases against him.
Prison officials and law enforcement agencies are working to locate Raja following his escape.
